RURAL youngsters face extra barriers when trying to finding work, training and education, warns a report. The speed at which youngsters have become unemployed or unable to find training and education is increasing faster in rural areas than in larger towns and cities, it claims.

MANY rural roads could see their speed limits reduced from 60mph to 40mph under new guidance to local authorities. Updated speed limit guidance will help improve road safety, said government minister Mike Penning.

CHANGES to the law which would allow tractors to use "red diesel" for gritting roads have been published by the government. Currently, only purpose built or adapted gritters may use red diesel when they are being used to grit roads.

RURAL Yorkshire could be next in line for a government-backed fuel duty discount, it has emerged. Prime Minister David Cameron said he wanted plans for a fuel duty discount for people in rural Yorkshire to progress "swiftly".
