Tourism strategy: Penrose shakes it all about

Tourism strategy: Penrose shakes it all about

So where are we now? Well, in the words of Mr Penrose himself, it was “in then out, then in and then out”. Ed Davey personally wrote to us to let us know all your letters had been passed on to him and he acknowledged there were lots of benefits to lighter evenings. Sadly, they ended up sticking to the government line that no change can be made until they are sure they have the backing of all of the devolved governments.

We all know that people from every corner of the UK are behind this, and the noise from supporters just keeps getting louder. The fact that it even came close to being in the tourism strategy just goes to show how far we’ve come – this campaign has taken the issue further forward than at any time in the last 40 years.

The Daylight Saving Bill is still working its way through parliament, so we’ve got to keep up the pressure.

If you've been keeping up with the news this week, you'll have seen a lot of talk about the clock change being included in the government's tourism strategy: http://www.metro.co.uk/news/856029-clocks-could-move-forward-under-david...

This comes after nearly 1,000 of you emailed tourism minister John Penrose to explain the benefits of lighter evenings – yet another demonstration of our collective power to tip the balance on this issue.

However, we've just heard that the launch of the strategy – originally set for today – has been pushed back by a week or so. No-one knows why at the moment, but it's vital that we create a new wave of political pressure to make sure the final document comes out in favour of the change.
