The New Forest Transition Newsletter

JULY / AUGUST 2014
The Summer Solstice has passed and the long days of light and summer are dancing with us, beckoning towards the mid-point of summer, Lammas, around August 1st. "Lammas as a name comes from Loaf Mass, the celebration of the first cutting of the wheat that gives the grain for our bread, which in past times was never a certainty and so was a cause of great relief when the harvest was good." Have a wonderful summer one and all!

Celebrating the fire of the sun, West Solent Solar Farm, the first Hampshire community-owned solar farm, is built and started generating power on 27 June, enough to supply the electrical energy needs of about 700 local households. A brilliant effort from all involved and in time to meet the feed in tariff deadline.

We're asking people to 'plant up' or save old pairs of wellies and other 'plant-able' objects for the New Forest Transition exhibition, Live & Unleashed, at the New Forest Centre from 18 October – 23 November. The exhibition aims are to raise awareness of the transition movement and the work and projects of new forest transition, and increase membership and local engagement. For more information please contact Sarah at duncan.sarah@virgin.net

Here’s a summary of some of the Transition highlights for July and August. Some of the ways that you can become involved in various activities over the next couple of months. More details can always be found on our website: http://www.newforesttransition.org.uk/
