Transition Penwith Information: September 2013

There are some really interesting events coming up in the next few weeks ...

Thursday September 5, 7:00pm to 9:00pm
Dolphin Tavern, Quay Street, Penzance TR18 4BD
The Transition Penwith Monthly Social Gathering takes place on the First Thursday of every Month. So if you'd like to meet up with other local people interested and involved in the Transition Movement or just find out what it's all about then do come along to the Dolphin. If you can't make it this month then maybe we'll see you in October!

Monday September 16, 7:00pm to 9:30pm
Open Shed, Champions Yard, Causewayhea, Penzance
People who live in cohousing communities all have their own self-contained living unit but also share many facilities. They've been popular in Denmark and California for decades but have only just arrived in the UK. Chris Coates is a founder member of the pioneering Forgebank Cohousing project near Lancaster.

Monday September 23, 7:00pm to 9:30pm
We're making full use of Chris Coates while he's in town! Before getting involved in cohousing he already had many years experience of communal living. "Communes Britannica" - his substantial new book - looks at the history of communal living in Britain from 1939 to 2000 and challenges many of the myths about so-called "communes" that the media have created. Chris's research revealed a rich history of communal living experiments in Cornwall and he'll talk about some of these as well as the wider subject of people living and sharing together in order tp pioneer new ways of life.

Wednesday September 25, 7:00pm to 9:30pm
Open Shed, Champions Yard, Causewayhea, Penzance
A monthly evening of swapping skills and sharing knowledge about all things fabric. The Midweek Mender group has a regular monthly slot - the last Wednesday of each month.

Saturday October 5, 9:30pm to 4:30pm
Mudita House, 43 Morrab Road, Penzance
Mindfulness has the potential to transform how we experience ourselves, others and the world. Grounded in the belief that awareness is inherently healing, the workshop explores how cultivating awareness, compassion, presence and spaciousness can help us to move beyond wounded perceptions and emotional habits, and deepen our capacity for relationship. All things that will be pretty important in the potentially very difficult years ahead.
