1st Transition Researchers Network Meeting

I hope everyone had a lovely end of year break. This email includes information on the recent Transition Researchers meeting in Manchester and details of our next meeting at the end of Feb. Apologies for any cross-posting.

1st Transition Researchers Network Meeting
The first independent meeting of the Transition Researchers Network took place recently in Manchester on the 28th of November. There were presentations of a number of emerging Transition research projects, an overview of Transition research to date and an outline of the key research needs identified by the Transition Network. We spent the afternoon in an Open Space session where we discussed a range of issues including methods for researching Transition, Cities and Transition, Health and Well-being and Sustainable Economies. There was also a short video presentation from the Permaculture Association supporting the Network.

Michelle Bastian - “Mr Seel's Garden” - a local food history project exploring the notion of ‘Honouring the Elders’ . Slides and blog post available here

2nd Transition Researchers Network Meeting
Our second meeting will be taking place on the 29th of February in Plymouth. We’ll be talking more about key research needs, developing a vision of a distinctive Transition research strategy and identifying funding possibilities.

Recently funded projects:
Two Transition research projects were submitted to a recent follow-on funding call from the AHRC looking for Pilot Demonstrator Projects for the Connected Communities research theme. We have recently heard that both were successful. This includes the Mr Seel’s Garden project, as well as a second project called “Connection, Participation and Empowerment in Community-Based Research: the Case of the Transition Movement” which will be working with the Transition Network to investigate how relationships among researchers, the Transition Network, and local Transition initiatives can be mutually beneficial. More details on these projects will be available at the 2nd Transition Researchers Network meeting in February.
