WREN are currently collaborating with installers of domestic and industrial PV, big wind, and working towards setting up the first Solar Allotment in Britain, for the benefit of the local community. WREN technical director, Jerry Clark, said “It does look as if our target of 30% of this population’s energy being generated from local renewables is achievable. We have set ourselves a first year target of 2MW, and the number of installations and the level of interest is encouraging.”

Andrew Hawkey, whose 250kW PV scheme at Chapel Amble is a part of WREN said, ”It is essential that farmers, businesses and householders move with the times and adopt renewable sources of energy, and WREN is helping them do that. This particular installation means that our holiday business is protected from what would be crippling rises in energy bills, and we are also delighted that some of the benefits can be shared in order to make sure that Wadebridge has a prosperous future.”

Company secretary, Tony Faragher, said “It is our desire to see as much of the revenue generated by renewable energies as possible to remain within our community. We anticipate generating an income to be paid to a Wadebridge community trust fund in excess of £300,000 a year, and it's installations such as this that will help contribute to that fund.”
