87 Superhomes, 3477 visitors and a Spring Openning

Superhomes (www.Superhomes.org.uk)are
again openning their doors to the public with another Spring Opening
just around the corner. 41
have already signed up all around the country and
promised 75 separate opening
events.

In September we
had 3477 visitors and
feedback forms. We use these
forms to create the statistics, such
as ‘Overall 98% of respondents
agreed that touch-and-feel visits like
these are a good way of learning
about solutions’. We use these
kind of statistics to show how well
we are doing and we often need to
quote these when applying for
funding or to support award
nominations.

We also use the feedback to
compare our results with other open
house events. So far we have been
able to demonstrate that people
learn more from SuperHome events
than they do at other ‘eco’ open
home events. We can also report
that visitors go on to make bigger
carbon savings after SuperHome
visits. We know this because we
use the feedback forms to follow up
visitors’ behaviour.

We usually leave a long
time before we follow up as we
believe that people undertaking
substantial investment in their
homes need time to make their
decisions, they also need time to
save, or arrange, the necessary
finances. Many other projects follow
up after three to six months. We
believe this is too soon.

Communities.

We know that many
Superhomers are involved with local
communities. Some provide
advice free of charge to help other
locals to undertake insulation
measures, others provide advice to
local charities and businesses and
more still are involved with local
Friends of the Earth or Green
Groups.

YouTube Video. Darren Johnson,
Green party member of the London
Assembly has produced a short film
“the future of home insulation in
London”. You can view it on
YouTube. Just follow this link

After 3.57 minutes you will be able
to view information on the
WHISCERS insulation system which
we have been trialling in partnership
with Parity Projects, United House
and Camden Council.

We are still working our way towards
that magical 100 SuperHomes and
today reached 87. We have another
ten which are ready to be assessed
(though of course may not all make
it).

Wales. Jane Davidson, Wales’
Minister for Environment,
Sustainability and Housing has just
visited John Cranna’s home in
Abergavenny. John got some great
publicity about the event, see

The one and so far only Superhome in Cornwall is Cottage Farm. See www.Superhomes.org.uk to book a place at their Open Day on 27th March.
