Come get inspired at an Open Day on a local Organic Farm powered by renewable energy

on Sunday 9th September, start 2pm, duration 3-4 hours, Cottage Farm, Jacobstow, Cornwall EX23 0BU

Interested in making your home more environmentally friendly?
Want to drastically reduce your energy costs?
Interested in sustainable, organic, environmentally friendly farming?
This is your chance to talk to someone who has done all that and more already!

Cottage Farm is the first SuperHome in Cornwall, a real home where real people have drastically reduced their carbon footprint and their energy bills. Cottage Farm is also a prize winning organic farm powered entirely by renewable energy as well as sustainable Farmer of the Year finalist at the BBC Food and Farming Awards and highly commended at the Cornwall Sustainability Awards.

Located in Jacobstow, just 8 miles South of Bude, the farmhouse demonstrates insulation, renewable energy for water and space heating, cooking, electricity, water, transport and the latest in LED lighting. The farm shows off farming powered by renewable energy with near zero use of fossil fuels, farming without fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, routine preventative medication of farm animals or other harmful practices. Instead organic and permaculture principles are applied to all aspects of farming, from selection of old native breeds, rich mixture of deep rooted grassland species matching productivity of chemical farming without any of the destructive side effects, to productive management of hedges and trees for mineral rich fodder and energy from wood.

We show our visitors why and how we live and farm with near zero use of fossil fuels and how they, too, may be able to benefit from much lower energy bills. Visitors will be able to touch and feel, see and ask questions about
· the many energy saving steps taken
· the various methods of renewable energy generation employed and its benefits
· followed by a farm walk and discussion of organic farming methods, localised sustainable food production and carbon free distributions of farm produce.
· We may also discuss the Superhomes charity and the Transition Movement and their contribution to increasing local resilience in North Cornwall as well as our motivations and prospects for the future.
