21Oct2014: Climate Change: Risk and Uncertainty

CAFÉ SCIENTIFIQUE

Entrance FREE but donations welcome to help cover costs.

Refreshments: £3 per person.

The next meeting will be held on Tuesday 21st October 2014 at 7.00pm at Jericho’s, 4 Northgate St., Launceston PL15 8BD - as usual.

The talk will be “Climate Change: Risk and Uncertainty” by Dr Stephan Harrison, University of Exeter

Dr Harrison returns to Café Scientifique Launceston, just a year after giving his very popular account of the Glaciation of Dartmoor, to present a talk on his other major interest: Climate Change and its likely effects. He says “There is now widespread scientific consensus that climate change is being largely driven by human activity and is warming the planet. There is also widespread consensus to show that this warming will be highly destructive in its effects. The talk will discuss the scientific evidence for this view by looking at the lessons from past episodes of climate change, current and future sea level rise and the likely future behaviour of glacier systems. In conclusion the talk will consider the implications of continued warming for human life and systems.

Dr Stephan Harrison is Associate Professor in Quaternary Science, College of Life and Environmental Sciences, University of Exeter Cornwall Campus, Penryn. He is a Director of Climate Change Risk Management at www.ccrm.co.uk

We look forward to seeing you at Jericho’s on the 21st
